Battery & charging

What happenedWhat it costs
Charge drops below 20%$0 — just plug it in
Charge drops below 10%$0 — we may send you a written warning
Charging to 100% more often than we advise$0 — there is no fee for this, ever
Car reaches 0%, or stops for want of charge — a tow, transport or mobile-charging company recovers itThat company's actual invoice, nothing added — or arrange and pay it yourself
Car reaches 0%, or stops for want of charge — Atrium's own staff recover it instead$150 flat service charge (never on top of a third-party invoice for the same recovery)
Repairs a technician blames on the flat battery (often the 12V battery)Actual repair invoice only — never flat-rated
Returned under 50% charge$50, or $100 under 30% (§7) — not charged on top of a recovery charge for the same event

Why running it flat is the one that costs: a lithium battery is harmed by sitting at empty, and Tesla's warranty does not cover damage caused by leaving a car at 0% — so that repair falls on the rental, not on Tesla. Charging it high is different: it shortens the battery's life a little, we would rather you didn't, and we do not charge you for it.

Where the $150 comes from: it is the documented local cost of a flatbed tow or a mobile-charging call in Utah County — about $104 to $195 per call when we reviewed it on 2 September 2026 — and it only applies when our own staff do the recovery. If a tow or charging company does it, you pay their invoice instead, never both. We will show you the invoice and the telematics record on request, and if the telematics record has a gap we do not guess a charge from it.

You are not charged if the car went flat through a fault of its own — a failed 12V battery, a software fault, inaccurate telemetry, or a car we handed you below the charge written on your agreement. Your agreement records the charge level at handover for exactly this reason.

If you are getting low and it is going to be tight, call us on (385) 204-4272. We would far rather help you reach a Supercharger than recover the car afterwards.

The bigger stuff

Glass replacement, panel resprays, the touchscreen, wheels that can't be refinished, or anything structural is never flat-rated — it's charged at the actual repair invoice, which we provide to you within 5 business days of discovering the damage (that's a promise in your rental agreement, §5). For large repairs we get two estimates. Damage visible in your pickup photos, or listed in your pickup damage declaration, is never charged to you.

Loss of use is charged only on the invoice path, only for the days the car is actually in the shop, at your actual prorated daily rate — never a flat multiplier.

One Tesla-specific rule: never lift or jack the car without Tesla jack pads (pucks) — lifting on the bare battery enclosure can cause damage in the five figures that no schedule covers. A puck kit is in the trunk; make any tire shop use it.

How the record works: your condition check at pickup (photos, video, and your own damage declaration) is the baseline — countersigned by Atrium staff and integrity-sealed the same day. A charge is only ever supported by that pickup-vs-return comparison plus a repair invoice or written estimate. If you elected the optional Loss Damage Waiver (a damage waiver, not insurance), see your rental agreement §5 for what it covers. Rates reviewed against current local repair costs. The exact version you accepted is reproduced inside your signed rental agreement as Appendix A; a later change to this page applies to you only after you accept it.
