What Happened to HyreCar?

HyreCar is gone. The company filed for Chapter 11 on February 24, 2023 (SEC filing), Getaround bought its assets in May 2023, and on February 11, 2025 Getaround announced that it was winding down its US business, HyreCar included. Getaround says it took no new US rentals after that date.

No company rents to gig drivers under the HyreCar name today, and hyrecar.com no longer offers rentals for them. A HyreCar app, login or promo code will not get you a car.

Which HyreCar Alternatives Serve Utah?

As of October 1, 2026, Utah drivers can rent through Uber's partners Hertz and Avis, Lyft's Express Drive, a local company or a Turo host, subject to Uber's and Lyft's own rules. Prices are weekly, as published that day.

Hertz, Avis and Lyft prices exclude taxes and fees; Atrium's exclude tax.

Can You Use a Turo Car for Uber or Lyft in Utah?

Turo allows it on its side. Its professional-use policy permits guests to drive for Uber and Lyft in every US state except California, Minnesota, New York and Oregon, which leaves Utah allowed as of October 1, 2026.

Turo's permission is not the apps' permission. Lyft's Utah page says a rental must come through Express Drive to be approved on Lyft. Uber's rental FAQ recommends its marketplace partners and says a car rented elsewhere needs manual document upload, including insurance approved for rideshare use, with no guarantee the car will be eligible. Read both before you book a Turo car for driving.

What Rental Programs Do Uber and Lyft Run in Salt Lake City?

Uber's Vehicle Marketplace lists eight Salt Lake City offers from two partners, Hertz and Avis, with insurance and maintenance in the price (as of October 1, 2026). Hertz takes a $200 deposit and needs 30 Uber trips each rental week to keep extending; two of Avis's three listings ask for 100 completed trips and a 4.7 or 4.9 rating. Are There Local Rideshare Rental Companies in Utah?

We found two besides Atrium. Millenium Auto Share in Draper rents Toyota hybrids at $190 a week plus tax with 400 miles a week, or $260 a week plus tax with no mileage limit, and the driver supplies insurance. Driver Valley, which delivers in Ogden, offers weekly rideshare rentals, says insurance is included, and does not list a price. Both as of October 1, 2026.

We found no other local company renting Teslas to rideshare drivers, though a small operator without a website would not show up in a search.

Do Drive Sally, DriveWhip or Other HyreCar Alternatives Serve Utah?

No. None of the companies below listed a Utah market when we checked their sites on October 1, 2026.

Where Does Atrium Fit Among HyreCar Alternatives?

Atrium rents only Teslas, but it is not the only Tesla in the table: Hertz lists a Tesla Model 3 through Uber for less a week, with insurance in the price. Atrium Car Rentals rents its own Tesla Model 3 at $425 a week and 2026 Model Y at $599 a week, plus tax. Each comes with 5,000 miles a month, measured as 1,250 a week, and with routine maintenance, registration and basic roadside. Personal (off-app) driving is limited to 500 of those miles a month. The minimum term is one month, with rent billed weekly.

It is not the lowest weekly price in the table, and insurance is not in it. Costs on top of rent include your own policy and charging, with Supercharging billed weekly at Tesla's rates plus a 10% service fee; the full list is on the pricing page and in the rental agreement. Where Atrium differs from Hertz's Tesla: the agreement permits both Uber and Lyft, there is no completed-trip requirement or weekly trip count, the fleet includes a 2026 Model Y, and a person in Provo answers texts. Renters add the car to each app by uploading its registration and their insurance document, which names them and the car's VIN, and they drive on both apps today. Final approval and ride-tier eligibility are decided by the platform and your driver account.

Atrium rents only to active Uber and Lyft drivers aged 25 or older with a license held at least three years, and runs no credit check. It is not a weekend Tesla rental. See pricing, the Utah rideshare rental overview or renting a car for Uber.
